Heating Oil Delivery FAQs

Heating oil, also known as home heating oil (HHO), fuel oil, or simply just as oil, is a low-viscosity liquid petroleum fuel that is first refined and then used as an energy source to power your home heating equipment.

Yes! Heating oil is an incredibly safe and nonexplosive source of fuel. It’s fire-resistant because of its high flashpoint of 140 degrees Fahrenheit. It also will show visible warning signs like smoke if a heating system malfunction happens, meaning that you will benefit from the added home protection

Reading an oil tank gauge is nearly the same as reading your car’s gas gauge: Full, ¾, ½, ¼, and Empty. There’s typically a small circular glass or plastic gauge on the top, or on the side of your oil tank. Make an effort to check the gauge frequently, and always place a fuel order before the bottom of your fuel gauge reads ¼ full.

If you’re not already enrolled in our automatic fuel delivery service, then you’re going to have to keep a watchful eye on your heating oil levels. Make sure to schedule a delivery when your tank is no lower than ¼ full. Of course, if you’d like your friends here at Schwanger Bros to handle your oil tank monitoring, sign up for our automatic fuel delivery service so you don’t have to deal with constantly keeping track of your fuel consumption. We’ll monitor your tank and automatically schedule deliveries when you need them!

It’s a fair rule of thumb to reason that the colder the weather gets, the more heating oil a furnace or boiler will use. In the height of the winter season, this means you’ll go through oil quicker than you would in warmer months. There are other factors that can affect the amount of heating oil you use as well, such as your preference for personal heating, the size of your house, and the efficiency of your furnace or boiler.

The most typical oil-fired appliances are boilers, furnaces, and water heaters.

The main advantage of heating oil is that it has been recognized as a safe heating fuel for a long time due to its nonexplosive nature. It’s also very affordable, abundant in supply, burns incredibly efficiently, and is eco-friendly.

Propane Delivery FAQs

Propane, also known as liquefied petroleum gas, LP gas, or LPG, is produced from natural gas processing or the refining of crude oil. It’s nontoxic, colorless, and nearly odorless; however, for your protection an odor is added so it can be very easily detected when needed.

Propane is an incredibly safe, reliable, nontoxic, nonpoisonous and eco-friendly energy source that poses no threat at all to soil or groundwater. Knowing how to properly use and store propane, as well as knowing how to detect the warning signs of a propane gas leak, can dramatically reduce the risk of a propane related hazard.

Your propane tank gauge can typically be found on the top of the tank, usually underneath a liftable hood. (Please note: Be very careful when you lift the tank hood; insects can sometimes nest in it.)

If you’re not enrolled in our automatic propane delivery service, and you’re monitoring your own propane tank levels, make sure to request a propane delivery when your tank reaches no lower than 30% of its capacity. As mentioned, we can handle your propane tank monitoring for you! If you live in the Lancaster, PA area, sign up for our automatic propane delivery service and ditch the headache and the hassle of monitoring your tank.

Propane is delivered and stored in liquid form. Propane expands incredibly rapidly as a gas; therefore, it needs a bit of space to expand in your tank. As a result of this rapid expansion, propane tanks and cylinders are typically filled to about 80 or 85 percent of their capacity to account for this.

Propane is incredibly versatile and has multiple applications both inside and outside your home. Propane is commonly used to power appliances like boilers, furnaces, water heaters, cooking stoves, fireplaces, gas grills, space heaters, pool heaters, generators, clothes dryers, and more!

Propane meets all of the clean air energy standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), making it a very safe and environmentally friendly energy source. Plus, an added advantage of using propane is that most propane is made domestically here in the United States. This means you’re not only helping the US economy by using propane, but because it’s produced domestically, you know that it’s abundant and reliable.
